Hospitality Terrace Climate Control: Solutions for Every Season
In hospitality, customer comfort is the absolute priority. If your terrace is too hot in August or too cool in January, you lose sales. Here are the most effective climate control solutions.
Summer: combating heat
High-pressure misting systems
Misting systems spray high-pressure water creating a fine fog that reduces ambient temperature by 5-10°C. They install on the pergola ceiling perimeter and are almost invisible.
Cost: from €500 for a 30 m² terrace Consumption: minimal (only water and a small pump)
Ceiling fans
Outdoor fans move air and create a cooling sensation. Best when combined with misting systems.
Winter: keeping warm
Gas heaters
These are the most powerful and the preferred choice in hospitality. A mushroom-type gas heater can heat up to 20 m² and runs on a propane cylinder.
Cost per unit: €150-400 Consumption: ~1 cylinder every 20-30 hours of use
Ceiling infrared heaters
They heat by radiation (people and objects, not air). They’re silent, take up no floor space, and integrate perfectly into the pergola structure.
Cost: from €200/unit Electrical consumption: 1500-2000W
Year-round: lateral enclosures
The most efficient climate control is not needing climate control. A lateral glass enclosure keeps heat in winter and can be left open in summer. It’s the foundation on which to build your terrace comfort.
Solutions table by season
| Season | Problem | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Summer | Excessive heat | Closed louvers + misting |
| Mild winter | Nighttime chill | Closed enclosure + infrared |
| Windy winter | Discomforting wind | ZIP side curtains |
| Year-round | Unpredictability | Bioclimatic pergola + sensors |
